Moving to Durham
Posted on November 16th, 2004, in the afternoon
I've just got back from a weekend in Durham where I will be living, and specifically Kings Church where I will be working, from January 2005. Hopefully everyone who should be finding this out in person rather than via my website already knows (apologies if not!).
I've been in London for just over three years now, the last two of which at Catford Community Church. Three or four months ago I realised that a lot of the things I moved to Catford to do have been fulfilled, and that there was a new sense of liberty to move on if I wanted to do that. I didn't want to do that because Catford Community Church really have become a family to me over the last couple of years, but you know how these things go...
I heard that Kings Church in Durham were looking for someone to work part time in serveral areas that basically amounted to the kind of job description that could pretty much have been written with me in mind - both in terms of things I'm confident I can do, and things I want to develop in. To cut a long story short (which is a shame to do as there are a few anecdote-worthy coincidences and confirmations along the way, but I don't want to inflate this post unecessarily) I took the job and I'll be starting after Christmas. It's a part time job, involving work with students, worship leading, admin and various other things. I'll keep web designing about the same proportion of time per week as I am now (which is perfect).
Durham really is a beautiful city (though it may be hard to tell from the slightly blurred photo above - I must figure out whether my camera is broken, or whether I just don't understand it), I think only Bath compares to it in terms of places I've been in England.
I'm so sad to be leaving all my friends in London, but it's an excellent opportunity in Durham, and God has definitely been inspiring the whole decision making process.
What a crazy life! I do love it.
