Towards a truer Christianity

Posted on December 8th, 2004, in the evening

I’m being challenged and inspired left, right and centre towards a truer Christianity at the moment.

This from Oscar Romero this morning:

Our religion is life. This is a beautiful truth that I want to remind you of. I want to recall it to you with gratitude to God because the preaching of religion as life is what has given resurrection and life to many who were dead in faith.

Oscar Romero, The Violence of Love

This from Eberhard Arnold:

No matter how much we may hear and read of the life of Jesus, no matter how well we understand his words according to the letter of the Bible, our knowledge remains lifeless if the spirit and essence of his love does not grip us and our whole life.

Eberhard Arnold, Innerland

This yesterday from Tom Wright:

Following Jesus is, more or less, Mark’s definition of what being a Christian means; and Jesus is not leading us on a pleasant afternoon hike, but on a walk into danger and risk. Or did we suppose that the kingdom of God would mean merely a few minor adjustments in our ordinary lives?

Tom Wright, Mark For Everyone

And this from Philip Yancey, again this morning, talking about a woman called Louise Adamson who has spent her whole life simply taking people in to her home and meeting the needs of people she finds along her way:

If you asked her about a five-year plan, or even a five-day plan, she would stare at you blankly. She says she needs to stay free to listen to God’s Spirit. She simply wakes up each day and asks God to use her.

Philip Yancey, Finding God In Unexpected Places

What is this?
