The Purpose-Driven hostage situation

It may sound like I've given this post a toungue-in-cheek title, but read this Guardian article - it couldn't be more literal.
It's a moving story, and a welcome counter-balance to all the Purpose-Driven Life-bashing I've heard recently.
I'll repeat the quote the woman read from the book:
We serve God by serving others. The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige and position. If you can demand service from others you've arrived. In our self-serving culture with its me first mentality, acting like a servant is not a popular concept.
