Lesslie Newbigin on atheism
Posted on April 14th, 2005, in the afternoon
I've long thought that some of the sharpest prophetic critique comes from 'atheists'. Atheists who often don't realise that their mode of speech is only coherent in the line of Judeo-Christian prophetic tradition. I've just found Lesslie Newbigin touching on the subject in Honest Religion for Secular Man:
What is called atheism may sometimes be in truth a protest against idolotry; it is wise for Christians to remember that the earliest Christians were called atheists.
