Devotion and distraction
Posted on October 10th, 2005, in the evening
Everything on earth seems to conspire against "the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ" (2 Cor 11:3). I honestly want nothing else. Or at least I honestly want to want nothing else...
I seem to get distracted by everything and anything: I'm distracted by success, distracted by failure; I'm distracted by enthusiasm, distracted by apathy; distracted by vision, distracted by disillusionment; I'm distracted by work, distracted by idleness; distracted by plans, distracted by chaos; by seriousness, by jokes; by ideas, by ignorance; I'm probably even distracted by my own distraction.
I ever more regularly catch glimpses of the reality that simple discipleship is the only thing, but it doesn't yet consistently work out in my life.
This is a curious, hope-filled frustration.
