Bible visualisations

Posted on November 8th, 2005, in the afternoon

Here are two interesting examples of web technology and theology converging:

Exegesis

A visulasation of passages quoted from the Bible on the internet. Passages are displayed in the KJV on the left, the larger the font the more often it has been quoted. In the main window there's a visualisation of all 66 books with bars shaded according to frequency of reference. When you select a verse, snapshots of quoted contexts fade in to view. You can also enter seach terms, whose mentions in scriptures are then highlighted in orange.

(This may require downloading an ActiveX Java control, is best on a large screen and takes a while to load, but it's worth it.)

Gospel Spectrum

A visual harmony of the Gospels. At a glance you can see how many verses and which Gospels mention a particular moment in Jesus' life. You can also switch to a view that displays the degree of harmony, shading the bars according to how many Gospels relate that incident.
