Kings Carol Service...
- O come, O come Emmanuel
- Once in royal David's city
- Angels from the realms of glory
- Joy to the World
- Light of the World
- Hark the Herald angels sing
Well, if you're going to make a mistake it might as well be like this:
I started 'Once in royal' in the right key, with the right rhythm, with the right chords, with the right words ...but to the tune of 'Hark the herald'. I managed this bizarre feat with such skill that, despite my singers' baffled looks, I didn't even realise the fact until I ran out of words for the end of the first verse. In my defense the two carols are actually fairly similar, but it did require a restart to get things back on the straight and narrow.
Fortunately, the mistake only added to the general good humour of the service, and following - as it did - a genuinely hilarious Christmas sketch, it was almost well-timed.
My sincere apologies to anyone visiting Kings this morning who has left shaking their head at how such an individual could be let loose on a congregation of 280 plus people, but hey, it wouldn't be Kings any other way. Happy Christmas, all!
