Worship Setlist - May 14, 2006

Posted on May 14th, 2006, in the afternoon

Sunday morning at Kings

  • Blessing and honour - Jamie Harvill, Gary Sadler
  • Praise Him, you heavens, - Russell Fragar
  • Beautiful one - Tim Hughes
  • Be thou my vision
  • Breathe on me, breath of God
  • Jesus, be the centre - Michael Frye

A large band this morning. As the quality and sophistication of the band increases it initially adds to the quality of the meeting, but go too far and everyone else can begin to become passive, switching to audience-mode. That's a particularly fine balance to maintain in our context where contributions from all over the congregation are an important part of our corporate worship. We didn't cross the line today - the band were great and there were plenty of contibutions - but I was reminded that that balance does exist.

I love the lyrics to Breathe on me, breath of God. Lyrically it was the perfect response to various contributions that preceeded it, but I'm not sure we quite nailed the arrangement. It's hard to keep it from sounding cheesily waltz-y, and it's hard to find the natural dynamics within the verses. It doesn't lend itself well to repeats, so seemed to go very quickly despite the slow tempo. I'm going to persevere with it, though.

What is this?
