Harold Thurman on What the world needs
Posted on September 22nd, 2006, in the evening
My life has been mostly full of the kinds of things it's hard to condense into a few paragraphs recently. Forgive my absence.
I spotted John Eldredge's book Wild at Heart in a charity shop the other day. It's a popular Christian men's book. For that reason I have avoided it until now, but I bought it on impulse.
The book is culturally foreign to me and I'm not sure about such totalising essentialism, but parts of what Eldredge is saying seem to have real substance. Along with lots else that I've found helpful, he mentions the following quote:
Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
I really do believe in life lived from the heart.
