Sunday morning at Kings

  • Come, let us worship Jesus - Graham Kendrick
  • Oh, our Lord and King - Alan Rose
  • The cross has said it all - Matt Redman
  • May I never lose the wonder - Vicki Beeching
  • Jesus, holy and anointed - John Barnett
  • May I never lose the wonder - Vicki Beeching
  • There's a place where the streets shine - Paul Oakley

A lively morning. Roger Forster was with us, talking about being saved. There were a fair few dancing during the songs at the end of the meeting.

I used Vicki Beeching's 'May I never lose the wonder' for the first time. It's a new song in a hymn style focussing on the Calvary scene. It has some beautiful lyrics, particularly in the second verse:

Though my eyes linger on this scene
May passing time and years not steal
The power with which it impacts me
The freshness of its mystery

The tune is quite significantly more complicated than most we sing, and it has a wide range. I played the song in A and the melody spans the A at the bottom right up to the D above middle C. It took people a while to warm up to the song but certainly by the second time we sang it there was a sense of connection with it.

I've been using the CD version a lot in my own worship this week, I'm definitely a fan, but I think the jury is still out on whether it will be a lasting addition to the Kings repertoire.

What is this?
