OpenStreetMap

OpenStreetMap has had an incredible makeover since the last time I looked (can it really be the same site?!)
I was searching for 'Crossgate Moor' and came across the blog of a student who has mapped the whole of Durham City Centre for the project. It's absolutely brilliant - much more comprehensive than Google Maps for the area it covers, including pathways and pubs as well as roads and railways.
But even the Durham map is still a work in progress, particularly anywhere beyond the City Centre. The major disadvantage of OSM is that there's no way of knowing whether empty space on the map means that there's nothing there or just that no one has got around to mapping it yet.
I guess that's where we all come in! I've added my street and a few other roads and paths. (And I can think of at least one co-worker who will love this!) I fear it's going to be quite addictive.
