Just back from a weekend of student houseparty, where I was leading worship every day. My voice was therefore in the lower registers this morning (I really must learn to look after it properly.)

But (and partly because of the good time we had on houseparty) it was a gospel kind of morning, with a baptism and preaching from Mark's gospel.

I've been reluctant to use some of the recent conference anthems (like 'Love came down') up to now, mainly because I think they're often written with big events in mind rather than congregational worship and with teenagers in mind rather than the whole church family.

Those are still issues, but I feel challenged not to take on a 'they don't make them like they used to' attitude to selecting songs. These songs definitely do have weaknesses (e.g. very low verses, very high choruses) but they also have real stengths and should, I've decided, definitely play their part in the balance of material we use in Sunday morning worship.

What is this?
