Posted on March 15th, 2009, in the afternoon
Sunday morning at Kings
- Praise, my soul, the Kings of heaven - John Goss, Henry Lyte
- Jesus, friend of sinners - Paul Oakley
- Your blood - Matt Redman
- Hallelujah, my Father - Tim Cullen
- This, the power of the cross - Stuart Townend, Keith Getty
- Jesus, all for Jesus - Robun Mark
- What good is it - Tim Hughes
- I will worship - David Ruis
- I'm gonna trust in God - Steve Earl
Wow, it really clicked this morning! Really full of life. Over a dozen people contributed after the sermon. A strong sense of God at work and us responding.
One factor at play (there were definitely others) was that I deliberately spent about an hour more preparing the setlist than usual. It really paid off in terms of the sense of freshness about what I was leading with.
It's odd how easy it is for the setlist to feel tired even though we have a repertoire of up to about 200 songs for Sunday mornings. Preparation really counts. Any song selected lazily is a weak point.
I used the Townend-Getty hymn 'This, the power of the cross' for the first time this morning during communion. It's a good one. My mum and dad are up visiting (hi Mum!); they definitely knew the song well after listening to me wrestling through the chords repeatedly on Saturday evening.
