Posted on October 4th, 2009, in the afternoon
Sunday morning at Kings
- Come, let us worship Jesus - Graham Kendrick
- Thank you for the blood - Matt Redman
- You alone can rescue - Matt Redman
- My Jesus, my saviour - Darlene Zschech
- Great is thy faithfulness - Thomas Chisholm, William Runyan
- Before the throne of God above - Charitie Bancroft, Vikki Cook
- We bow down - Viola Grafstrom
- And he shall reign - Graham Kendrick
A really full meeting this morning. Probably around 300 people, which is massively higher than normal for the Sunday before term starts. I didn't really have a big enough band to support such a large gathering. Not that anything went wrong but I really felt the lack of dynamic space as we were all having to play pretty hard.
It's relatively rare that I use two songs from one writer in any given set. I did that twice today, and in fact used two of Matt Redman's songs running one from the other; I'm not sure I've ever done that before! I like to balance out the emphases of different writers by using a variety of sources. But Matt Redman writes such good material on the Cross!
I think Matt Redman and Graham Kendrick are the two writers I would least like to lose from our repertoire at Kings. They both have a huge range of quality material, deep theological engagement and both focus their writing around the person and Cross of Christ.
I taught 'You alone can rescue' today. A fair number knew it already and I think it went pretty well. I'll deinfitely use it again.
