Worship Setlist - Dec 20, 2009

Posted on December 20th, 2009, in the afternoon

Sunday morning at Kings

  • Tell out my soul - Timothy Dudley-Smith, Walter Greatorex
  • Great is your faithfulness - Chris Tomlin
  • Here I am to worship - Tim Hughes
  • O come let us adore him (chorus) - John F. Wade
  • From the squalor of a borrowed stable - Stuart Townend
  • Who is there like you - Paul Oakley
  • When I survey - Isaac Watts
  • O Jesus, son of God (Light of the world) - Matt Redman
  • Jesus, be the centre - Michael Frye
  • Hark the herald angels sing - Charles Wesley

Our last Sunday morning meeting of the decade! (No service on the 27th.)

A rather shambolic lead from me, including but not restricted to the following elementary worship leading catastrophes:

  1. not knowing where to pitch an introductory chorus that I'd just announced we would sing
  2. starting another song a tone higher than a congregation could reasonably be expected to sing (luckily I noticed and recitified the situation immediately)
  3. that perennial favourite - breaking a string

I don't know whether that makes it a disasterous or an absolutely fitting end to what is also pretty much a decade of worship leading for me. Luckily with the good humour of the snow-surviving resident congregation and the general Christmassy atmosphere all the chaos just made for a family feel. It's good to be reminded that when push comes to shove it really isn't about how good the worship leading is.

That's about the best Matt Redman's 'O Jesus, son of God' has gone (despite being the song that I couldn't pitch the introductory chorus.) We don't do it often. I love the words and it's especially relevant at Christmas.

'Tell out my soul' - a setting of Mary's 'Magnificat' - seemed particularly fitting as an introduction to worship this morning.

What is this?
